“What most inspires me is color. Vivid color harmonies
affirm life both witnessed and experienced.”
– Richard Fox
What most inspires me is color and movement. My work is both Fauvist and Expressionistic as I take what is around me but filter it (as earlier artists from these movements did) through my feelings and moods. In this way vivid color harmonies affirm life both witnessed and experienced, and it gives me great joy to share that passionate sense I feel whenever I encounter contrasts and picturesque details in my wanderings. I work from memory and sketches, and also in front of the motif whenever possible. Intensity for me is all—allied with that embracing of lively color is a diversity of subject matter. I live in California and try to use my adopted state as a backdrop to paintings of beautiful vineyards, desert vistas, mountain scenery and, of course, the Pacific Ocean.
