I was pleased to receive Honorable Mention for my painting “Flowers on a Patio” from a group of twenty-seven watercolors submitted for the Coachella Valley Watercolor Society Painter of the Year competition.
Noted watercolorist Carol Carter served as judge for the event. She said of my painting: “This painting is just spectacular. It has such brightness of light and brightness of freedom of brushwork and it’s brilliant in the fact that it portrays representational imagery in a total fluid and free way with just dynamic and deliberate brushwork, and spacial brushwork. It is such confident and competent painting it reminds me of Matisse. It looks like a quick and fast painting: no fuss, no indecision, total comprehension of the environment that he is painting, and he knew exactly when to stop. There is no second guessing, no mistake, no corrections in this painting. It is a one-and-done kind of landscape. I find it incredibly sophisticated and rich. I just loved looking at this and it is very creative with the way it was painted, and the beautiful fluid result that came out of this effort is just spontaneous, clean, bright and sure. A great, great painting.”
To receive such accolades from a fellow watercolorist was high praise.
