I’ve painted this lovely overlook before (Port Costa Overview), but in a much wetter (later) time of year when the ground was green and lush. It was very instructive to go there mid-July and see the color variations of the ground and vegetation. The parched soil meant for interesting paint combinations. Orange, blue, yellow and violet went into the soil color you see here. I was lucky to paint the locale (Port Costa Panorama) with an incredibly intense blue sky with puffs of clouds drifting past. A very nice day all around.
